Life Changing!
In August 2023, I found out I had bowel cancer and it felt like my world imploded! I’ve always been fairly fit and healthy, I eat pretty sensibly, I enjoy running and yoga. So to be told that what I thought was piles (one of the untold joys of pregnancy - especially when you’ve had three!) was something potentially life ending was a shock to say the least.
The operation to remove the tumour was booked for September and except for an infection, which kept me off food and in hospital for 4-5 extra days, all went well. Biopsies showed cancerous cells in lymph nodes and so Chemotherapy was booked to start in November.
Over the following four months, I completed four rounds of chemo. The latter rounds were kinder than the first, but all of it I hope never to repeat.
The London Winter Run 2025 coincides with the anniversary of my last chemotherapy infusion in February 2024. I’ve decided to mark it with this 10K run for a few reasons. Firstly to help me regain some of the physical strength and fitness I have lost in the 18 months since my diagnosis. Secondly to mark the anniversary of a very weird year with something positive and finally to remind myself of what I’m capable of!
I’m attempting to raise a bit of money for cancer research to really help this anniversary shine. Anything you can afford to give would be greatly appreciated.
I am taking on the Cancer Research UK London Winter Run 2025.
