Why?
If you know me well, you’re probably aware that I’m by no means a runner. In fact, I wouldn’t even say I’m close! Add to that the lingering effects of post-COVID asthma, and it’s safe to say a 5k feels like a marathon for me.
So, why am I doing this?
The reason is deeply personal: cancer has profoundly impacted my life.
Nearly 10 years ago, on Christmas Day, my dad was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma multiforme (Brain Cancer). As you can imagine, it wasn’t the kind of holiday surprise anyone asks for. Despite aggressive chemotherapy and radiation, he passed away 18 months later. Losing him was devastating and changed the course of my family’s life forever.
Earlier this year, my mum received the news that no family wants to hear twice. She was diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma (Kidney Cancer), which has now progressed to stage 4. Despite the challenges ahead, we remain hopeful that she can achieve remission.
The statistic that 1 in 2 people will have cancer in their lifetime? It’s painfully real for us. But alongside the heartbreak, we’ve also seen incredible progress in cancer treatment over the past decade. The medication my mum is on now didn’t even exist when we were going through this with my dad 10 years ago. That’s why I’m so passionate about supporting further research—there’s still so much more to be done.
This is why I’ve set myself this challenge: to raise funds for Cancer Research and run a 10k doing it.
I would be incredibly grateful for your support—whether it’s words of encouragement or a donation, no matter how small.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
(maybe it'll be a half marathon next)
I am taking on the Cancer Research UK London Winter Run 2025.
Please donate to my page to help me raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK and support me as I train for a 10k on 23rd February 2025.
Nearly 1 in 2 people will get cancer in their lifetime*. All of us can support the research that will beat it.
Thank you for supporting me! Together we are beating cancer.
