Cancer is relentess. But so are we. 

Slow af but doing it anyway

I’m old, fat and unfit. I’m likely to get lapped by passing snails, and with a month to go I’m terrified and seriously reconsidering my life choices, but this MATTERS.  It matters to me, to people I love, and to people I’ve never met It’s bigger than all of us and together we can make it count. 

30 years ago I was young, fit and had my whole life ahead of me, but I still hated running and the weekly torture that was PE at school filled me with dread.  Whatever made me think taking up running at 45 was a good idea, I have no clue! Yet here I am. I’d like to claim that I’m self motivated and disciplined, but I’m not. Not in the slightest. I need accountability and, for me, there is no greater motivator than the fear of letting others down - the thought of failing in my pledge to support Cancer Research has driven me to move my rear come wind, rain and snow, in sickness and in health. There is nothing more important than this cause and because of this the thought of failure is far more unbearable than the thought of going for yet another miserable/uncomfortable /hateful (delete as applicable) training run. 

I’m not famous, I don’t have a bazillion followers, I don’t even have that many friends, but I’m trying my best to raise money and awareness for this incredible cause. 

I am taking on the Cancer Research UK London Winter Run 2025.
