My target 100 kms

Cancer is relentess. But so are we.

One Week Remaining

In less than a week, I'll be tying my laces and heading off on a 10km tour of the centre of London. Training is well underway, but it's still a daunting challenge!

Despite the radio silence on here, my training for the London Winter Run 10k is well underway - and it hasn't stopped yet! As planned, I've continued to support the Sunday and Tuesday sessions of Couch to 5k, run by the Far Runners.

In addition, Pam and I have met up with some of the new cohort (pictured below) to jointly take part in the third run of the program each week, taking place on a Thursday evening. The evenings may be getting lighter, but they aren't yet getting much warmer - nor are the chilly Sunday morning starts! Still, I've been up and out for each one, ensuring readiness for the 23rd.

Please donate to my page to help me raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK and support me as I train for the 10k on 23rd February 2025.

Target Increased!

Wow - what a response! With huge thanks to the folks at Elsevier, my initial £175 fundraising target has been well and truly exceeded.

Not time to take my eye off the ball now, though - target increased to £1,200! Of course, the training continues...

Supporting Couch to 5k

After a pleasant, and very much enjoyed, Christmas break, it's back to work and - importantly - really time to get myself ready for the 10k in February!

I've decided to help myself whilst helping others, providing support to the new Couch to 5k group of (I hope) new Far Runners! A nice, steady week 1 of the program to get myself back into the stride - greatly aided by the company of others, be they other experience runners, or those I can fully relate to from a year ago, when I completed the C25k program for the first time.

Weekend Wander No. 1

As well as getting back into running, I'm also aiming to pick up longer distance walks. Starting with one per fortnight, I'll look to increase this to once per week.

This first wander was a nice 10km around Wicklesham Farm, across the A420 from Faringdon. Joined by Ellie, we had a very pleasant time - particularly when she got a good case of the zoomies when meeting another dog on their walk!

Getting Back to Running

After between 4 and 5 months of not running, this seemed like a good opportunity to get back to it - supporting the #LetsLiftTheCurfew campaign, aligned with the changing back of the clocks.

A staggering 72% of women in the UK change their activity routines when the clocks go back - this shouldn't be the case! This campaign, by #ThisGirlCan aims to highlight the concerns many women feel when getting active outdoors after dark by calling for a safer and more inclusive experience.

Far Runners, the local running group of which I am a member, believes that everyone has a right to feel safe on our streets, and everyone should be able to exercise when they want: not having to restrict themselves to the curfew of daylight hours for fear of personal safety.

This was a tough session for me physically, but as ever the support of those around got me through it. Part run, part walk, just under 5k in the bag.

I am taking on the Cancer Research UK London Winter Run 2025.

Nearly 1 in 2 people will get cancer in their lifetime*. All of us can support the research that will beat it.

Thank you for supporting me! Together we are beating cancer.
